Venue – The World Forestry Center
The Summit will be held in the Miller Hall and Cheatham Hall meeting facilities at the World Forestry Center, a short light-rail ride from downtown Portland. The Center is located in Portland’s beautiful Washington Park, next to the Oregon Zoo. Before and after the conference, and during breaks, you’ll be free to enjoy short walking trails through the dense Northwest forest and up to the Vietnam Veterans of Oregon Memorial .
If you have the time, stop into the Center’s 20,000 square foot museum built in dramatic Cascadian style architecture. You can take a wet-free raft ride, see the forest from a bird’s-eye-view, learn about different people who work in the forest, and “travel” to Russia, China, South Africa and Brazil to discover how those regions are utilizing their forests and the challenges they face.
Where to stay
If you’re coming in from out of town, stay in one of the downtown Portland hotels. They are right in the middle of Portland action, and a 12-minute light-rail ride to the venue. We recommend these five:
- AC Hotel (Marriott) at 888 SW 3rd Avenue
- Heathman Hotel at 1001 SW Broadway
- Hotel Modera at 515 SW Clay St.- book online and enter “PRO” for 15% discount
- Hotel Rose at 50 SW Morrison St. – ask for special rate of $209 (good through Sept. 8) for Smart Grid NW DR & Storage Summit
- Paramount Hotel at 808 SW Taylor St.
Getting to the Summit
All of the downtown Portland hotels are walking distance to the Portland Area MAX light rail Red Line (green box below). From there it’s two stops to the Washington Park station (red box), which lets you off in the parking lot in front of the World Forestry Center. Here is the timetable for the Red Line.
